After having talked about the mobile browser Skyfire, now it’s available to be downloaded. So far it works on Windows Mobile (5, 6, and 6.1) and Symbian S60 (3rd edition), and only in these countries: US, Canada, and UK. However, you can use it in other countries at your own discretion. But the problem now, is that from their website you can only download it sending an SMS to phones from thos countries. So some of us will have to wait…

Windows Mobile 7 delayed til 2009!!!

October 2nd, 2008 by amoros

CNET has published that Microsoft has delayed Windows Mobile until the second half of 2009. Maybe, Microsoft has been too slow in its development, or maybe, they have decided to improve the new O.S. after all of us have presenced the launch of the new operative system for iPhone or even the new Google Android for G1.

These are some of the features Windows Mobile 7 will provide:

  • Gesture recognition
  • Speech recognition: powered by Microsoft Tellme. It may work also to give voice orders to start applications.
  • Internet Explorer update: it will include features similar to the desktop IE 6.
  • APIs: probably Microsoft will provide standard hardware APIs, such as accelerometer support. Then, mobile software developers could develop applications based on accelerometers, and apparently they would work the same way in all devices.

We hope the delay means a future stable operating system launch and features being refined. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, declared in April this year, that the Windows Mobile would outsell Apple and RIM during 2008 but now it’s too late…

¿CUANDO LLEGA MI BUS?

September 5th, 2008 by admin

¿Cuando llega mi bus? is a new website developed by our friend Abel Mendivil, which  allows you to consult how many time you should wait until the bus arrives (only for Zaragoza).
You enter the number of pole and returns a list of buses passing through this stop.

Currently working on iPhone version, in order to add features such us create link associated with the poles you use most often, improve the design, and more and more.
It is a simple website but very useful if you live in Zaragoza and have a 3G mobile phone.

Google Chrome for mobile devices

September 4th, 2008 by amoros

Two days ago Google launched its new web browser, called Google Chrome. Quickly lots of people downloaded it to have a try and see how it worked. After some testing time I can say that it does run fast. With high probability, the reason is the new browser engine it uses, launching each website and tab like a new process and in a smart and easy way.

But after testing it I thought “Ok but, will Google provide a Chrome version for mobile devices?”. And surprisingly I got an answer from Sergey Brin, Google co-founder, who talked about this in an interview at the Chrome launch event. In the event he said that Chrome will make its way to Android, the company’s mobile phone operating system and software suite.

Brin also said that both Android and Chrome have been developed separately but that now the two projects are public and nearing their first final releases, it’s probably that Android’s browser “is going to pick up a lot of the Chrome stack”, pointing to JavaScript improvements as one area. Chrome and Android’s current browser both already employ WebKit, an open-source project for the process of interpreting the HTML code that makes up a Web page and rendering it on a screen, what makes them get closer.

With this on-working state browser and the current mobile browsers, we start to have the chance to choose a web browser for our mobile device, although in some cases it depends on the O.S. our device has. Below you can find a little table with the current mobile web browsers, the O.S. they support and the development state.

I wish all these browsers were cross platform and then we could forget about our device O.S. and choose the one we like most even if we change our phone.

Microsoft Skymarket (neither Store nor Market)

September 1st, 2008 by Javier Rubio

First Apple opened the App Store, then we recently knew Google´s plan for their same, the Android Market. So, it´s time for the big old master, Microsoft… which is starting to think the idea, as this job post shows.

If the post it´s not a fake, it unveils the first move towards a Windows Mobile App Store, which the Redmond guys call “Skymarket“.

This extract from the job post defines their goal:

Key Responsibilities include the following:

” Definition of the product offering, pricing, business model and policies that will make the Windows Mobile marketplace ‘the place to be’ for developers wishing to distribute and monetize their Windows Mobile applications. “

A new war has begun.
