Tattoo: The little big HTC’s Android phone

December 1st, 2009 by Marta Tejel

HTC Tattoo is the latest Android mobile phone launched by HTC which attacks the affordable market. Although it is not the cheapest, it is reasonably priced.

At the first sight, because its design and knowing that it has a resistive touchscreen, it remind us of HTC Touch, a device too difficult to use without stylus. All we know that Android isn’t built to use with stylus, in fact all the other Android phones in the market has capacitive screen, so at the beginning it is normal to think that it can be a huge issue.

But, despite it wasn’t a good start, after some days using it I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised with this device.

People complain about the use of resistive touchscreen saying that the unique reason is keeping cost down, but HTC claims that it is because its 2.8-inch screen is simply too small “to be accurate with” as a capacitive one.

I can say that, after holding it in your hands, you will realize that a great finger-friendly environment has been achieved.

You can see the whole specification here. Let’s see some outstanding features that makes Tattoo different.

Palm Pre on the way with Movistar

March 11th, 2009 by Marta Tejel

After a long time discussing about which mobile operator will be carry the Palm Pre in Europe, today the battle between Vodafone and Movistar has finished.

Although it seemed clear that Vodafone was the favourite, due to Vodafone and Palm already have a history of co-branded Vodafone handset versions (such as the Treo 500v), this time they have not reached any agreement, and it will be Movistar who is going to have an exclusivity Palm Pre carrier in Spain, Latin America and UK (O2).

Android-powered Internet Media Tablet by Archos

February 11th, 2009 by Marta Tejel

Last fall the french manufacturer Archos released its last three Internet Media Tablets. The Archos 5 and Archos 7, which both include high-resolution touchscreen, WiFi, up to 320GB storage besides slim casing, and the Archos 5g which adds 3G HSDPA cellular broadband. They are powered by OMAP 3 applications processors from Texas Instruments, based on a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor.

Now, Archos has announced is going to combine this Archos’ multimedia framework with Google’s Android telephony stack. This makes Archos possible to think in a IMT with smartphone capabiliteis. With the integration of voice Archos is looking to expand beyond portable media players, and moving into the mobile device market with a high-quality video content delivery clearly better than its competitors. Android also provides access to its fast-developing applications environment.

The new Archos’ IMT will offer:

  • PC-like Internet experience enhanced by a high-resolution 5″ screen and full-width page viewing
  • Adobe FlashTM and Flash VideoTM support, full screen
  • Access whenever and wherever to TV, movies, photos, music and game
  • Uncompromised TV recording and High Definition (HD) playback, all formats
  • Innovative design: compact 10-mm ultra-thin tablet
  • Long battery life, 7 hours’ video playback
  • 3.5G 7.2 Mb/s HSUPA
  • Laptop-like performance from the first implementation of OMAP3440 processor based on the ARM(r) CortexTM superscalar microprocessor and DSP

ARCHOS’ new Android-based IMT with voice functionality will be released in 3Q 2009. Don’t miss it.
