Touch Diamond VR Hologram

September 16th, 2008 by admin

Hologram mania is here, some weeks ago we reported about a hologram app for the iPhone, and now a similar application for the HTC Touch Diamond.

VR Hologram very similar to the wii Head Tracking VR demo made famous on youtube.
Uses G-Sensor to track tilt and update the VR Hologram view accordingly. 3D Hologram created using Managed Direct 3D Mobile (MD3DM). Found it easier to learn than the Managered wrapper for Opengl ES.

First Release V.1

MD3DM Graphics
G-Sensor view tilt (smoothed using moving average)
Nav sensor zoom
Tap screen to exit

This is Pauloke´s first 3D app/game and also his first windows mobile app, and he say this is only a concept can also be used to show those without the Diamond it abilities.

Congratulations! It is incredible! :D

Google Mobile App for BlackBerry

September 15th, 2008 by admin

A few days ago Google launched Google Mobile App for BlackBerry.
Google Mobile App lets you access to:

  • Search
  • Maps
  • GMail
  • Calendar
  • Docs
  • GOOG-411
  • News
  • Photos
  • Reader
  • Notepad

The absence of Google Talk and non-management of the applications may be the negative note from both the Google Mobile app and the Google Mobile site.

On the other hand, Google has improved other features, such as:

  • Searches faster
  • History searches
  • Complete queries (Google suggest)
  • Updates alerts

If you visit m.google.com on your BlackBerry, you can download and install the application, allowing you to get immediate access to all applications.

I hope soon get versions for all devices. Many of us want to get access to this application but we don’t have a BlackBerry. :(

Photostream: Flickr on Android

September 5th, 2008 by amoros

Photostream is a new open source sample application for Android. This application is a browser and viewer of pictures for Flickr. To use it from your phone, you need a user name from Flickr, but the application offers a default user name if you just want to try it.

As it is an open source application you can browse the SVN repository, that has been included in the apps-for-android project. If you check the code you will be able to see some examples of developing different features like:

  • Activity aliases
  • Adding custom shortcuts to Home
  • Adding a new wallpaper chooser to the system
  • Custom layouts
  • Custom XML attributes
  • Use of themes
  • Use of styles
  • Use of text colors
  • Use of <include>
  • Use of bitmap and layer drawables from XML
  • Use of HttpClient
  • Proper interaction between background threads and the UI thread
  • Efficient display rotation (using the new onRetainNonConfigurationInstance() API)
  • Animations and layout animations
  • Cropping an image
  • Image manipulation

For instance, you can learn how Photostream can add a new shortcut type in Home, to create a shortcut to any Flickr account. The shortcut shows a custom icon, downloaded from the Flickr user profile.

So these are great news if you are a Flickr/Android lover cause you will be able to access Flickr from your Android phone or learn about its development.

iHologram

August 27th, 2008 by admin

This is one probably the most impressive app developed for the iPhone,Created by David O’Reilly, iHologram there is no more than a cat walking on the screen, but the use of the iPhone’s gyroscopes to create an hologram sensation is incredible.

David’s application assumes a constant viewing angle of 35 to 45 degrees, which is the usual angle when anyone watches the iPhone screen. Knowing that angle, the application calculates the orientation of the screen relative to the viewer using the iPhone’s motion sensors, so when you turn it around, the 3D world perspective gets skewed accordingly.

Unfortunately this app is not available, so check this video to see how it works.

App Store Burns!

August 19th, 2008 by Marta Tejel

Apple said to us Tap into the App Store and you’ll find applications in every category designed to take advantage o iPhone features. And iPhone users must being done, because Apple have announced that over 60 million iPhone and iPod touch apps have been downloaded in the one month since the iPhone 2.0 firmware has been availabe.

Although there are a lot of free downloads, the benefits reach about $1 million per day, generating a total of about $30 million in sales per month. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my career for software”, Steve Jobs says, adding that sales could “crest a half a billion” in short order and that $1 billion could arrive “at some point”.

It seems that the most important for the success of a device, is the applications that it provide. “Phone differentiation used to be about radios and antennas and things like that”, Jobs explains. “We think, going forward, the phone of the future will be differentiated by software.”

Ipoki, lifestreaming with geoloc

August 13th, 2008 by admin

Ipoki is a Spanish social network based on localization. Its main service is sharing your position with your friends in real time and tracking your buddies location in Google Maps and Google Earth.

Plugins for Windows Mobile, Symbian S60 and Blackberry are available. But, if your device does not include GPS, you can update your position on your web browser.

Your location information can be used for automatically geoloc your photographs in Flickr and other web services.

Now, Ipoki has developed a new service they call Life Streaming, that generates a KML file that includes all the positions you have recorded and adds the related items to each position – Flickr photos, videos, etc …

It’s one more example in the field of location based services, that for sure will be commonplace and very appreciated by mainstream users.

10 commandments to mobilize

August 4th, 2008 by admin

W3C has released its 10 commandments to be a great mobile parishioner :D

  1. Design for one web. Content designed with diverse devices in mind reduces cost, increases flexibility, and reaches the needs of more people.
  2. Rely on web standards. In the highly fragmented market of devices and browsers, standards are the best guarantee for interoperability.
  3. Stay away from known hazards. Thoughtful design can help reduce usability problems due to small screens and keyboards, and other features of mobile devices.
  4. Be cautious of device limitations. When choosing to use a particular Web technology, consider that mobile devices vary greatly in capability.
  5. Optimize navigations. Simple navigation and typing become critical when using a small screen and keyboard, and limited bandwidth.
  6. Check graphics & colors. Images, colors, and style brighten content, but require care: devices may have low-contrast screens or may not support some formats.
  7. Keep it small. Smaller sites make users happier by costing less in time and money.
  8. Use the network sparingly. Web protocol features can help improve the user experience by reducing the impact of network bottlenecks and latencies.
  9. Help & guide user input. Keyboards and other input methods on mobile devices can be tedious to use, so effective designs minimize the need for them.
  10. Think of users on the go. Web users on the go want compact information when time is short and distractions many.

Please follow the father´s word to navigate in a better mobile web world.

Amen :D
