Young people are mobile

January 9th, 2008 by Daniel Vecino

Invited by Ramon Ananos, yesterday I enjoyed so much sharing more than an hour with a group of Business students (21-22 years old).

We talked about mobile marketing and new technologies and how mobile technologies will be one or two years later.

I usually speak about mobile technologies, but in this case I’m very surprised for the great response I achieved when I asked about mobile services that they want as mobile users. Pizza orders, bus routes and schedules, ski maps, information about concerts and parties and so on.

In all cases they prefer using those services through a mobile application instead of sms or mobile web pages, although they have to pay to download and install those applications. It is a great conclusion because mobile applications are more useful and intuitive than other alternatives.

Besides, they were very surprised to know that it is possible to install those applications via bluetooth without any cost for them, or download them via SMS Premium, but in this case with a discount or promotion code.

Good news for mobile market, good news for companies. Young people are mobile. Young people want mobile services…

Ok! Lets give them those services!

Domino’s Pizza accepts pizza orders via SMS

August 20th, 2007 by Daniel Vecino

Last July, this pizza company started a new trial in their 470 outlets in UK allowing users order his favorite meals through an SMS.

To use the service, you have to register your full details online, but from then on it seems easy to order. Once you’re registered you then need to set up your “favourite meals” by texting them to Dominos, and give them a code name that you’ll remember.

More than 2000 users have already signed up for the service since it trialled in July.
