CNET has published that Microsoft has delayed Windows Mobile until the second half of 2009. Maybe, Microsoft has been too slow in its development, or maybe, they have decided to improve the new O.S. after all of us have presenced the launch of the new operative system for iPhone or even the new Google Android for G1.
These are some of the features Windows Mobile 7 will provide:
- Gesture recognition
- Speech recognition: powered by Microsoft Tellme. It may work also to give voice orders to start applications.
- Internet Explorer update: it will include features similar to the desktop IE 6.
- APIs: probably Microsoft will provide standard hardware APIs, such as accelerometer support. Then, mobile software developers could develop applications based on accelerometers, and apparently they would work the same way in all devices.
We hope the delay means a future stable operating system launch and features being refined. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, declared in April this year, that the Windows Mobile would outsell Apple and RIM during 2008 but now it’s too late…
