Blackberry 9000

April 30th, 2008 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

I’m not specially interested in RIM Devices (I used to be a Blackberry owner, and I finally change it for a Windows Mobile Device). Ok, I know this is not the best way to start a post, but this device is surprisingly attractive.

It’s well designed (Alvaro and Daniel will surely agree with me) and the technical features are awesome, featuring HSDPA interface, WiFi, 2 mega pixel camera,  and a really  nice interface. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been officially presented by RIM yet.

If you want extra information about this device follow SevenClick’s Blog.

Brightkite, the new microblogging.

April 30th, 2008 by lvaro Arregui

Brightkite is not another microblogging tool, it is like twitter or Pownce, but with some handy location-based features. It let you see what people around you are doing in real time.

You can attach your current position to small 140 character posts, it also lets you see who is around you based on when they “checked in.

Users can create for places they frequent often and meet people who do the same activities, like gym or café, in order to avoid having to type it out each time they post.

Maybe it is one of the best options of microblogging available for mobile. You can create an account now, but is still a beta.

Samsung´s Water Fuel Cell

April 29th, 2008 by lvaro Arregui

Micro-fuel cell which power a mobile phone for 10 hours of continuous usage that runs on water, really?

Yes, it is true. Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on water, it will be available on 2010.

“When the handset is turned on, metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas,” explained Oh Yong-soo, vice president of Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ research center. “The gas is then supplied to the fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power.” Other fuel cells need methanol to produce hydrogen, while Samsung’s needs only water.

That is a great news after all, although it wont be available till 2010, it is a great solution to keep this world clean, or a bit more.

Just another juicy gossip: Apple may be working on a software -iControl- which will transform your iPhone into an iTunes remote controller.

First 3G, now this… I wonder how many people have read the iPhone firmware code looking for new gossips.

Skype announces new mobile versions

April 28th, 2008 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

Skype has announced new ports of its mobile VoIP software. The new versions are JAVA based, and it currently covers devices by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola. Skype also announces that new models will be supported soon, so I you don’t find your mobile, you’ll probably do in the following weeks.

Skype for mobile is beta software. It has limited support for Skype to Mobile calls, only available in certain markets such as Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Not that bad.

What’s most surprising for me is the fact that Skype for mobiles is based on Java. I think it’s a great support for the Java platform, as long as it proves that Java is more than games.
