Samsung is scheduled to launch the first LiMo-based commercial phone in the first half of March. The phone, called SGH-i800, will run ALP Linux Access, supporting both the J2ME platform and more than 25K Palm applications. In addition, the ALP SDK is already available for any developer.

Last week, in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Orange (France Telecom) announced that they will sell the phone by June, after some tests and interface adaptations. This means that Android has a new true competitor, as some members of the LiMo foundation quoted that these devices might be sold for less than 100 $.

Anyway, is quite obvious that the free and open mobile systems are finally reaching the market. In my opinion, this is a true benchmark that will mean, if passed, the end of the closed systems.
