Windows Mobile 7 advance

January 30th, 2008 by admin

Some days ago we found this very interesting advance on what is coming on Windows Mobile 7. First of all, to say that WM 7 has still a long path until it becomes a final release, that is planned to ship by 2009.

All the review is based on an internal document of Microsoft that seems to been from past summer. It includes several references to iPhone. Just the confirmation that nowadays it’s the reference when it comes to user interface.

The key points of the new user interface are touch (multitouch, indeed) and motion gestures. Of course, when we talk about touch we mean finger touch.

For motion gestures implementation it will not use a complicated series of gyroscopes and accelerometers. Instead, it will use the camera on the phone to detect motions and create appropriate actions.

Moreover, WM7 will have dramatically improved visuals, very similar to Windows Vista. Look at the screenshots in the InsideMicrosoft’s post.

Well… this seems very cool. But we’ll have to wait at least one year to see what is actually released. Then we’ll see if all this stuff is bundled.

Microsoft will need all this – and, by 2009, maybe even more – in order not to lose momentum in smartphone market. iPhone and HTC’s involvement on OHA can make Windows Mobile fade away during this year.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Microsoft trying to bring forward as soon as possible the announcement of Windows Mobile 7.
