Despite how appropriate is the iPhone to play video-console games, it’s clearly an interesting platform for eager developers. If you had a Sony Playstation console, you can recall your old Playstation games with psx4iphone. What’s this? a Playstation emulator for the iPhone. The software simulates (or emulates to be more precise) Sony Playstation hardware, being able to run Playstation games on the iPhone.
The emulator is not perfect yet, but taking into account that Playstation runs 3D games with dedicated chipsets, its pretty good in my opinion. I don’t know whether you can find emulators for older systems like SNES, Megadrive, Game Boy, and so on and so forth, but this machines should be emulated almost perfectly by the iPhone.
Oh, don’t expect a good user experience in terms of game control. The Playstation had a gamepad with 10 buttons along with the digital and analogue joysticks. All this buttons and controls must be simulated (not emulated, je je) on the touch screen. So, unless you are very skillful with your hands, you won’t be able to do more than just moving around your character….
The SDK is going to be launched next February. The only way to run homebrew software in the iPhone is through unofficial software. Nevertheless, you already can play Quake in you iPhone. And now we find this information, which is absolutely amazing.
Take a look at the video.
