SiRF to supply GPS on Android

December 21st, 2007 by Rafael García

SiRF has commited to provide support for Google’s Android platform. SiRF is one of the majors vendors of GPS chipsets, that are shipped within a big portion of the GPS devices on the market.

Up to now, thre is no information about what kind of “support” will SiRF provide. It could be just the hardware or maybe even the end-to-end support for location.

Definitely, it seems “location awareness” will be an important part of Android, tightly integrated with the core of the system.
