Go To Android, new developer community around Android

December 12th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

Android is getting hotter day after day. People are showing their interest in the platform getting together in software development communities. One of the last ones is Go To Android. This Spanish initiative has been created by Fernando del Pozo and Javier Primo, two Android enthusiasts with the willing to create a place where all Android fanatics can share information, host projects and participate in forums.

Go To Android has been created using Drupal, and the results are terrific. I think that the site has been very wisely designed. Every element is clearly identified and managed. There are minor bugs in the interface, but the site is only one day old, so they will be surely polished.

Here is a list of the available functionality.

  • Blog.
  • Forums.
  • Project hosting.
  • News.
  • Open ID login.

The have chosen English as the language for Go To Android, and in my opinion, this is the best choice possible. Despite they mention that a Spanish version is about to come, English will open up the community to a higher number of members. Currently, and taking into account that Android is just an SDK in a very very early version, the number of Android developers is very low and when you want to create a Developer community around a certain topic, you have to take into account the potential number of people interested. Good choice guys.

Some may say that Android is nothing but a hype, a buzzword, smoke. But don’t forget that just with an SDK, Android is creating more movement in the mobile software development world  than other technology in history. There must be a reason for this.
