Poliplus software creates JavaME for Android : ME4Android

November 26th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

If you have followed last weeks Java community, you might know that most of their discussions have been around Android and its no-compliant Java implementation. As a result of the interest generated by Android, we have the first JME implementation for Android: ME4Android.ME4SE

Well, the last sentence is not exactly correct. ME4Android is not a JME virtual machine. Poliplus Software has adapted ME4SE to Android. Some of you might know  ME4SE project. This project aims to implement some of MIDP classes (mainly LCDUI and Generic Connection Framework ) in JAVA Standard Edition in order to make MIDlets runnable in conventional PCs without emulators. Well, the project have other objectives, but in short this is what is used for.

Indepently of where ME4Android comes from, it represents the first step in JME integration in Android platform. And this is interesting enough to take it into account. This project has proven that JME and Android can live together. I think that JME Virtual Machines for Android will appear sooner or later. Very soon indeed.
