Mobiles that prevent catastrophes

All of us know that mobile phones are a powerfull mean of communication. What you may not know is that these devices can also help to improve your safety.

One example is the new mobile service developed by The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (U.S.A.). This system will notify the people who lives near a nuclear plant in case of any kind of nuclear emergency. If the core of your neighbourhood’s nuclear power plant melts down, I’m sure you will be pleased to be the first to know!

Of course, this system is just the tip of the iceberg, as it has many other applications:

  • Fire accidents
  • Earthquakes
  • ….

The service will be launched in 2008 as a prototype for other civil protection systems.
