iPhone: What I like, I dislike & I can’t do

November 6th, 2007 by Daniel Vecino

After one month using everyday an iPhone for personal and business, it’s time to summarize my opinion about the invention of the year. And I would like to do it grouping it in three main categories. What I like, I dislike and I can’t do. Here we go!

What I like

  • Intuitive user interface
Well, it is Apple! Do you expect something different?
  • Multi-touch screen
Zoom in a picture, Google Earth or a webpage and everything in your life will change.
  • Screen sensitive
There is not a real competitor in that matter. Finally a touch screen that really works to make calls.
  • Movement sensors
I have some problems in MobileSafari trying to portrait a landscape website, but in general it works
  • Light sensors
Very important functionality to save battery
  • Mobile Safari
Touch on a web page, Safari will detect the html tag you selected and zoom it in for you to the width of the screen. Great!
  • iPod integration
I have never had an iPod before, but it is not a surprise if I say that it is the coolest mobile multimedia player that world have ever seen before.
  • Contacts and calendar could be synchronized in several PCs
It is common to share your contacts between your work PC, home PC, laptop,…
  • Widgets (stocks, weather, clock and YouTube)
    Apple again!
  • Wow effect!
This is one of my favorites! In a meeting, put your iPhone on the table, and everybody will focus on it.

What I can’t

  • I can’t order my contacts by company
Oh my god! It is incredible! If Apple wants iPhone to be used for business, this is a basic requirement!
  • I can’t search in my contacts
Well, you can, but installing a third-party application named “Search”
  • I can’t copy and paste…
but in a month I haven’t need it.
  • I can’t disable load pictures in Mobile Safari
Very interesting issue that it is supported in all mobile browsers I have ever seen… not included in Mobile Safari.
  • I can’t delete synchronized content from the iPhone
Only videos after playing them up to the end. What about songs and pictures?
  • I can’t connect a bluetooth GPS and use it via Google Earth
Think about it! It could be great! A really killer experience!
  • I can’t install third party applications
    Really? ;-)
  • I can’t watch all YouTube videos
I don’t know why, but some videos fail.
  • Connect through 3G or 3.5G
    Maybe on May
  • Camera is not for video recording

What I really dislike

  • Camera quality and camera software is awful
You can not modify luminosity, contrast, zoom,…
  • I don’t like at all not to be able to synchronize my iPhone songs, pictures and videos in several PCs
  • I really dislike not to be able to listen (not copy) my iPhone songs in other PCs through iTunes (why?)
  • Calculator is too basic
  • Why I have to use an adapter to connect third party earphones
  • Ring volume is too low

Finally, I would like to say that it has no sens to compare iPhone with other smartphones like HTC Touch or Nokia N95. Why? It is easy. The iPhone is not a phone, is not a mobile phone. It is a new kind of devices where nowadays only the iPhone is in it. Maybe a future Google Phone could be in this category.

In conclusion, iPhone is great! Test it! Touch it! Enjoy it!

What is your like/dislike/can’t do list?
We are waiting your opinions…!

What I dislike most is that the touch keypad is not designed for my big fingers!!!!

Seriously, I haven’t tested it so deeply to have a clear opinion.
