The new BCM215551, “3G phone in a chip”, manufactures by Broadcom, incorporates all the technology that a 3G mobile needs in a single chip which is already available.
This chip combines a gang-base 3G transceiver with Bluetooth 2.1, a multiband radio frequency transceiver, support for video at 30 fps, 5 megapixel camera, multimedia advanced processes, and even a transmitter and receiver radio FM to be reproduced in a stereo equipment car.
“No chip no competitor has ever achieved this level of integration which reduces the cost, size and electrical power neccesary, while it enables a level of functionality very advanced” state the company.
The impact of the launch of the iPhone from Apple in terms of battery life, could change with this new chip, and now all the functionality required is embedded in a single processor with the minimum requirements of battery.
In fact, iPhone 3G could arrive before Christmas.
