October 18th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

The S60 Python port has been updated to 1.4.1 version. As you might now, Python is a dynamic scripting language that has been ported to almost every platform in the market. This port to S60 comes with the following fixes and new features:

  • telephone module improved
  • position module improved
  • autostart support added to py2sis
  • sensor module added (3rd Ed only)
  • video camera support added to camera module
  • appuifw module: tool tip support added (3rd Ed only), added attributes “size” and “position” to Listbox (3rd Ed only)
  • backup support has been added
  • fixed PDF document formatting problem that caused page numbers to be

Three of this features reveals the maturity of this port: autostart, sensor module and videocamera support. The possibilities are very interesting for Python developers. Symbian platform is very tough for development. Very, very, very tough. It’s curious how things are changing lately with this Python port and the announce made by Nokia of the new release of the Widgets platform. It looks like Symbian and Nokia guys have finally realized that unless they provide an easier application framework, S60 third party applications will not be as massively developed as expected.
