Yes, you have read it right!!! XCome Technology, a Taiwan based Microsoft Partnet, has developed a Windows Mobile client using Java ME technology. Best thing is that the release is supported by a Taiwanese operator, Chunghwa Telecom, which plans to support the service with a flat rate offer. And it will only cost 3$ a month. Awesome!!!
Independently of my preferences, this movement reveals that something is changing currently. An initiative like this one wouldn’t have happened some time ago. Taking into account the number of followers of a service like Windows Live Messenger, once you plan to adapt it to a mobile environment, you have to think about the most convenient environment to deploy the client application. And the best environment is always that with the biggest number of compatible devices. In other words, JAVA ME. Google knows it. Yahoo knows it. And Microsoft finally is starting to find it out, neither directly nor massively but some steps are being made.
