Mobile High Definition

NTT DoCoMo has announced the release of a set of new devices featuring the Broadcom BCM2727 chip.

What is the use of this chip? To process high definition images, with a resoulution up to 720 pixels as well as 3D graphics. Apparently the chip can even “support up to a 12 megapixels camera” without sucking all your battery power.

Some test performed, using a regular phone and a regular battery, resulted in 5 hours of playback and 3 hours recording of 720p.H.264 video.

The chip also has a HDMI 1.3 output.
