Mobile Books are taking off in Japan. Some time ago, an Italian author wrote what was considered the first Mobile Book ever. Currently, Japan is leading the world in Mobile Book adoption. Several communities have appeared lately allowing members to obtain mobile books to consume. Books are mainly written by amateur authors that want to show their material to the massive market o mobile phone users. Don’t forget that mobile phones are the platform of choice for Japanese people to play videogames. Currently available books are mainly short stories and manga comics.
I’m amazed how fast Asian market adopts new initiatives. I always say that the best place to look at for inspiration is Japanese market. In my opinion, mobile books will eventually be adopted by European and American markets. Mobile format is suitable for books (they can be distributed by chapters) and perfectly suitable for comic books.
