RFID contacteless payment systems are spreading around the world. As we spoke before, McDonals in Korea is testing an RFID payment system in their “restaurants” while Visa is deploying its payWave system. Their first try started September the 26th in San Francisco with one thousand devices loaded with 15$. The idea was to start educating the users as checking the system as well.
Recently Visa launched the Visa Micro Tag system which is payment system embedded in a key fob. The user simple has to wave his / hers keyring over a contacless payment terminal without any phisical contact and any the cost of any object purchased is charged using credit, debit or prepaid accounts.
Security, which is a key factor in commercial transactions, has been improved from regular Visa cards. It uses an unique digital watermark to the Visa payment network for each transaction and it never leaves the user’s hand. Anyway this device is focused to be used in small ticket purchases, where speed is mandatory, rather than expensive purchases usually performed with less hurry.
