LG + DivX = Viewty!!!

September 27th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

LG is including DivX decoding capabilities in one of their mobile phones, Viewty (LG-KU990). The mobile phone will be available in mid. October in Europe. The LG Viewty includes 120 fps video recording as well as manual focus, image stabilizer and handwriting recognition that makes editing easy on the Viewty’s 3-inch wide LCD touch screen.

The press note says nothing about recording capabilities. Watching DivX movies in a 3″ screen could be funny, but not functional. Anyway, it looks like there’s a market for this kind of features (Don’t forget iPod Video). If the Viewty would include recording capabilities, that would be another different song. Recall that mobile phones storage capabilities is very limited and including this recording format will improve it enormously as long as DivX videos are quite small ( in fact, it depends on DivX profile used to encode). Maybe in next model, who knows.
