First, there were the drive-thru restaurants. Order your fast-food without even getting out of your car.
But they were not enough. Not all McDonals restaurants can have drive-thru ordering so the fast-food junkies have to queue to order their meals. Totally outrageous.
In order to solve this, McDonals restaurants in Korea have deployed a RFID system which allows users to order their BigMacs from their tables. They have just to download an application, plug their phones to the table RFID reader and send the order. When the “food” is ready the system sends a SMS message showing what counter have their ready tray and the bill is charged through their mobile phone.
I have two complaints to this system:
- Users still have to walk from their tables to the counter to get the food.
- The system objective is to deliver products that don’t match the quality of the system itself. Too bad.
