20 years of GSM. If we look back to 7th September of 1987, we’ll see how our world has changed. What started as an European effort to define a common standard for mobile communications has become one of the most exciting changes in communication history. In fact, not only communication has changed, but our lives. Old days when mobiles were elitist stuff look currently so far away that nobody seems to realize that it happened just 15 years ago.
If you take a look at SevenClick staff interviews (let me do some advertising here), there is a question that comes now to my mind. “Where don’t you go without your mobile phone?”. Nowhere actually. People carry their mobile phones always with them, independently where they are: weddings, meetings, travels, cinema (it really annoys me)… Mobile phone penetration is so wide that it has become an utmost importance element.
Well, I don’t want to be philosophical (today it’s friday, after all). So, Happy Birhtday GSM.
