fring supports WiFi auto-roaming

Via SlashPhone we noticed that fring now supports auto-roaming between WiFi and cellular networks.

fring is a free VoIP and IM mobile phone applications that allows calls, real-time presence and chat with diverse IM providers. In fact, it is one of the most widespread application of its class.

This feature makes fring to operate with any kind of network access seamlessly, from those you have previously configured. That way, it will first try to connect a WiFi network and, if no WiFi hotspot is available, then it tries 3G/GPRS connections. Moreover, and this is more important, fring keeps on monitoring those configured wireless networks accesses and will switch between them automatically if required. Priority will be given to WiFi connections unless otherwise configured by the user.

Though this is quite different from a any-network-roaming scenario, it is a good approach as it will allow automatic ‘roaming’ in predetermined places, for example at home, at the office, … just every usual place where we have WiFi hotspots. In fact, even some mobile operators offer this kind of service that allows cheaper calls when you are at home.
