Opera browser on Sony BRAVIA

August 31st, 2007 by rggiron

Opera has announced
that its browser has been selected for Sony’s new BRAVIA Internet Video Link, a module that attaches to the back of new Bravia televisions. The goal of Sony is to incorporate access to Internet video content to the TV sets. Currently, the Internet Video Link is scheduled to be released only in United States.

Opera claims in the press release that Opera 9 SDK for Devices has allowed Sony itself to quickly integrate the browser into its module, what brings insight into the fact that they have not collabarated on develoment, but they have acted as a vendor.

This is a new sample of what Opera is doing about embedding its browser in any kind of device, that is becoming the leading strategy of the nordic vendor. We will see for sure many more devices including GUIs powered by Opera browser. Not only for surfing the web, but the interface to control the device itself.

ebay launches mobile bidding service in Europe

August 31st, 2007 by rggiron

eBay is about to launch a bidding service in the UK, France and Belgium, that has been available in Spain since the end of last year. There are plenty of services which allow bidding on eBay auctions from your mobile, but eBay itself did not provide such a possibility. The service will enable users to track their auctions and bids on the move, and to react from mobile if increasing the bid is needed.

The interface of the service is via SMS and will be billed in a per-message basis and hence it does not require a download. It is just a reporting service with the added value of re-bidding, that will be offered as an option when you place a bid online.

August 31st, 2007 by Alvaro Arregui

Something that usually keep mobile users on pins and needles are unreliable batteries. These pieces of hardware always take the blame when you find yourself unable to talk, send an e-mail or whatever you want to do with your handset due to lack of power.

But, are really batteries so lousy? Or could mobile devices have wrong information about the battery power output?

Mobile Bookmarking with Mobiseer

August 30th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

Mobile websites are growing exponentially. Latest measurements reveal more than a million mobile websites available. Combine this amount of information with the easiness of information input of mobile phones and we have a problem.

Mobiseer appears to solve this problem with a web 2.0 service that allows you to keep track of your prefered bookmarks in a del.icio.us way simplifying access. You could say, Another bookmarking site!!!!. Not really. Along with keeping track of your mobile bookmarks, it allows to define a personal web site, similarly to NetVibes, with your preferred bookmarks, folder, etc..

Oh!!! .mobi access available ;P

Nokia N81 upgraded with 8 Gb. memory!

August 30th, 2007 by Alvaro Arregui

Since the iPhone was released, many other handsets have been released or announced to be, with a built-in memory size of 8 Gb. Although most of them are high-end devices, this kind of capacity seems no longer extraordinary.

One example is the 8 Gb. version of the Nokia N81. It replaces the 2 Gb. expansion slot with a 8 Gb. flash memory. It seems very reasonable according the aim of this device: Music & Gaming.

Users will be able to have it by the end of this year, at a price of 430 € (70 € more expensive than the 2 Gb. version).

Ovi, Nokia’s “door” to Internet Services

August 30th, 2007 by Jose Manuel Cristobal

Ovi, meaning “door” in Finish, is a brand new initiative recently presented by Nokia’s CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, in Go Play event. Under this name, Nokia is going to group a set of services that will allow customers to access social networks, media, maps, music and games. This initiative follows the path opened by Nokia several months ago with sevices like Widsets, a Widget platform for Series 60 Mobile phones to access internet services on the go.

This movement has been longly announced by Nokia. After becoming the most successful mobile phone manufacturer in the world, they have seen the niche of mobile web market and have put their machinery to work and the first results are coming. Ovi is not another service like Facebook or similars. At first sight, it gives off a different smell. Nokia has one big advantage: their customers. Nokia is going to enable access to this brand new service from Nokia mobile phones and, as long as they are the most selling mobile phone manufacturer in the world, the service starts with an interesting base of potential customers. To close the circle, Ovi is not limited to mobile access so Internet fans can also use it from their pcs.

Interesting and very clever movement by Nokia. In SevenClick’s opinion, just N-Gage game service justifies the creation of Ovi. We are very excited here in SevenClick with N-Gage initiative, as you can see reading other related posts. :P
